About Dr. Sumitavo Ghosh
Dr. Sumitavo Ghosh is a Clinical Oncologist and Radiation Specialist dedicated to providing precise, evidence-based, and compassionate cancer care. With over seven years of experience in radiation oncology, chemotherapy, and palliative medicine, he combines advanced technology with a patient-first mindset to ensure holistic healing.
Currently serving as In-Charge and Consultant at Sanaka Cancer Center, Durgapur, Dr. Ghosh’s mission is to make world-class oncology treatment accessible while supporting patients through every step of their journey.
PROFESSIONAL JOURNEY
Dr. Sumitavo Ghosh is currently serving as Assistant Professor and Consultant at Sanaka Cancer Center, Durgapur (2022 – Present), where he played a key role in establishing the Radiation Oncology Department and developing its Standard Operating Procedures. He oversees a wide range of cancer treatments including IMRT, VMAT, SBRT, brachytherapy, and systemic therapies such as chemotherapy and immunotherapy.
Before joining Sanaka Cancer Center, he worked as a Senior Resident at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital (2021 – 2022), where he managed diverse and complex cancer cases while receiving advanced training in palliative care.
His journey in oncology began as a Postgraduate Trainee in MD Radiation Oncology at RG Kar Medical College (2018 – 2021), where he gained comprehensive experience in radiotherapy planning, image-guided treatments, and multidisciplinary cancer management.
Education & Training
Dr. Sumitavo Ghosh’s academic journey reflects a strong foundation in medicine and a continual pursuit of excellence in oncology. He completed his MD in Radiation Oncology from RG Kar Medical College & Hospital, where he developed in-depth expertise in the management of solid tumors through advanced radiation techniques and chemoradiation protocols. Prior to that, he earned his MBBS from NRS Medical College, building the clinical and diagnostic skills that shaped his compassionate approach to patient care.
To further enhance his knowledge and align with global standards, Dr. Ghosh pursued advanced learning, including the Advanced Management of Oncological Diseases program at Harvard Medical School. He has also completed the Basic Course in Biomedical Research and the Basic Course in Medical Education under the National Medical Commission (NMC), and he has achieved a Professional Diploma in Clinical Research (PDCR). His academic and clinical training together form the cornerstone of his evidence-based, patient-centered practice.
RESEARCH & PUBLICATIONS
Dr. Ghosh has authored several peer-reviewed studies on anemia in cancer patients, radiation protocols, and ocular manifestations in hematologic malignancies.
His research contributes to improving treatment standards and advancing oncology practices.
